About Practical Wing Chun - Australia
Wan Kam Leung Practical Wing Chun Kung Fu Australia What is Practical Wing Chun? Wing Chun is a Chinese self-defence system, which is said to have been created by a woman more than 300 years ago. The system’s fundamental principles are economy of movement, efficiency, and technique over strength. The system is focused around the centrelines, diagonal lines and angles. The theory behind the basic elements includes: balance, timing, control and simultaneity in defence and attacks. There are different lineages of Wing Chun depending on the interpretation of the system. We follow Grandmaster Wan Kam Leung who modified and improved the system so it has become more practically applicable, hence the name Practical Wing Chun. Sifu Pui Yee, W. (2013). What is Practical Wing Chun Retrieved from http://practicalwingchun.info/ Grand Master WAN Kam Leung was the earliest student of the Late Master WONG Shun Leung and was a senior instructor in Ving Tsun Athletic Association for many years. In 1988, Grandmaster Wan was awarded the “Senior Instructor Certificate” by Late Master Wong Shun Leung, he was the few student that achieved such rank. Since late Grandmaster Wong was a close friend and Wing Chun tutor of the great Bruce Lee, young Grandmaster Wan trained and exchanged martial arts knowledge with Bruce Lee when the actor returned to Hong Kong from America. The martial art talents became friends. At Bruce Lee’s request, Grandmaster Wan was invited to perform in a screen test with him, a few months before he passed away in 1973. Since then, Grand master Wan has been interviewed for several documentaries on Bruce Lee’s life. Sifu WAN was the only Wing Chun Chief Instructor for the G4 (VIP Protection Unit) ever invited by the Royal Hong Kong Police Force. Sifu Wan Kam Leung has precisely modified his Practical Wing Chun Kung Fu system through decades of meticulous analysis based on scientific logic/ theory & life threatening fighting experience. The WKL Practical Wing Chun Australia (Qld) Branch is run by Sifu Jack Leung, an indoor disciple of Grand Master Wan.
